2020 TMHRA Annual Professional Awards

In the midst of…that is something that is being shared a lot these days like…In the midst of these uncertain times…In the midst of our new normal. However during these “In the midst of…” times there are positive impacts that sometimes may not present themselves as uber evident but are definitely there and we need to be reminded to actively look for them.

As HR professionals we continually live “In the midst of…”, In the midst of employee environment/performance challenges, in the midst of benefit changes/rate updates, in the midst of compensation adjustments and pay schedule comparisons, and with our world, nation, state, and municipalities being significantly impacted over the last few months, we have had to veer/suddenly change direction in our processes and the way we engage with each other and those we serve.

On June 29, 2020, TMHRA held its 11th annual awards presentation during its on-line business meeting.  The awards program is designed to celebrate the passion, creativity and innovations in our municipal organizations.  This program recognizes individuals as well as organizations who make a significant impact on our profession.

Simon Sinek in his book Leaders Eat Last shares “Organizations where people share values and are valued succeed over the long term in both good and bad times.” In the spirit of this, below are examples of where you as passionate individuals and teams who truly care about the employees and communities you serve have shone your light through these uncertain and ever changing times.

Below are the award categories that were open for nomination this year, including an inaugural category, the TMHRA Memorial Award.

  • Rising Star (Individual Award)

Recognizes a new member who shows exceptional promise of leadership and contribution to the association and profession. Recipients should be in the first five years of their career in public sector human resources management and can include those who have moved into public service mid-career.

  • Human Resources Management Professional of the Year (Individual Award)

Recognizes the human resources professional who has made significant contributions to the field of municipal human resources management in the past 18 months.

  • Innovation in Municipal Human Resources Management (Organizational Award)

Recognizes the local government that has developed innovative programs and services to solve municipal human resources management problems and create opportunities for its community to reach its full potential. This award is aimed at programs that have been created or modified in the past 18 months.

  • HR Strategic Department of the Year (Organizational Award)

The HR Strategic Department of the Year award is a new award category that recognizes the outstanding contributions that an HR team has made in the past 18 months to their City and the employees they serve. The Strategic HR Department of the Year award acknowledges the efforts made to enhance and further the mission, vision and values of the organization and its culture while aligning strategic HR practices and programs.

  • TMHRA Memorial Award (Individual Award)

This award is in memory of and acknowledges previous TMHRA members who were dedicated to the continuous pursuit of practical and applicable knowledge in the field of Human Resources as well as their active encouragement and mentorship of others within their profession.  This award is intended to recognize the human resources professional(s) who embody these observed attributes. The recipient must be an Active, Affiliate, Cooperating, or Emeritus member of TMHRA.  The recipient(s) of this award will receive a scholarship to attend the subsequent year’s TMHRA Annual Conference in the form of the waiver of the conference registration fee.
